Diversity and Inclusion Statement
Rollers Theatre Company is committed to continuously taking the necessary steps to become a more inclusive society that better reflects London’s diversity. We recognise that this is an ongoing mission to which the whole society is dedicated. We are committed to telling authentic stories, and this starts with creating a welcoming space where everyone is empowered. To make our performances and rehearsals an environment in which everyone can feel safe to pursue their hobbies and forge new friendships, we will work to identify and remove barriers to inclusivity.
We will rehearse and perform in accessible venues, making accessibility an essential requirement for any venue hire.
We commit to using inclusive language across the society, in rehearsals, shows and publicity.
Production teams will cast with an open mind, without prejudice and ensure maximum flexibility on personal characteristics, beginning from a neutral perspective where specific characteristics are not specified in the script. Understanding the importance of visibility and representation onstage, we will also practise conscious casting as part of our commitment to tell authentic stories.
RTC operates on a show/rehearsal fee model, rather than a yearly membership fee, so cast members only pay for shows in which they participate. We commit to publishing the maximum fee an individual could pay for a production upfront, and production teams will always be open and flexible with members to accommodate personal circumstances to support participation as much as possible.
Ongoing progress on Diversity and Inclusion
In early 2024 RTC asked members to feedback on diversity and inclusion in the society alongside proposals around the RTC membership, The goal was to better understand both the perception of the society and members views on the best next steps to take. RTC will shortly be publishing a response to members on this feedback and continues to welcome feedback at any time.
