RTC: Our May Cabaret by RTC Exec

Who says that Elle Woods can’t be a brunette, that you need to be a girl to want a Big Spender, or that you need to be a child to dream of ‘When I Grow Up’? Our May cabaret will be all at once an amusing, energetic, and moving night of RTC regulars & newbies playing parts they would never normally be able to play.

Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, this show is a lovingly comedic parody of the frivolously inconsequential stage musicals of the Jazz Age. A fan known only as Man in Chair invites you on his nostalgic journey back to his all-time favourite show The Drowsy Chaperone. Hailed by New York Magazine as "The Perfect Broadway Musical," The Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical, poking fun at all the tropes that characterise the musical theatre genre, providing something for all audiences (especially those who claim not to be musical theatre fans…).

If you’ve ever sat for two hours in a theatre willing for something entertaining, The Drowsy Chaperone’s intoxicating charm will surpass those expectations!

WAKE UP! It's the Drowsy Auditions... by RTC Exec

We are thrilled to announce our fabulous production team for The Drowsy Chaperone:

Director - Izzy Osbourne

Musical Director - Andrew MacFarlane

Choreographer - Claire Lewis

We know you're eager to hear about the audition details, so we're sharing those now to make sure you know what's happening

Firstly, if you don’t know the show, 'Drowsy' has a large and varied cast - up to 18 roles of different sizes, with plenty of opportunity for dancing/singing/acting. Whether you're looking for a chorus part or yearn to be Drowsy herself, we have something for you.

Secondly, there will be two rounds of auditions, both taking place at the Calder Bookshop (51 The Cut, SE1 8LF). The nearest station is Waterloo.

Round 1

Slots: Monday 11th July OR Friday 15th July (both 7pm-9pm)

You don't need to book a time, just turn up on one of the evenings.

Please prepare a song of your choice that best suits your voice (with the piano sheet music if you need accompanying). There will also be a short acting audition - extract to be provided on the night.

If you can't make either of the Round 1 audition dates then don't panic - email the secretaries (Alex and Sophie) - rollers.theatrecompany@gmail.com - and we'll work it out.

Round 2 (Call backs)

Slots: Tuesday 19th July OR Wednesday 20th July (both 7pm-9pm)

You will be told which evening you should attend.

In this round, we will be teaching a song from the show and some brief choreography, so you don't need to prepare anything beforehand.

Can’t wait to see you there.  And to all those auditioning - GOOD LUCK!
